Every month we have a little staff tasting to refresh or experience the taste of the wines we stock. I have to say, October was a great tasting (sorry Kazza, you missed out!).
Raspail in particular, stood out for me. This winery is just off the Rhone as you head towards the Alps in a village called Drôme. A small family producer, Frédéric and Anouck produce organic wines. I've always enjoyed the Clairette and Cremant, so to taste the Chardonnay 2018 was a real delight. A mineral, tropical nose and bursting with ripe tropical fruits on the palate - it's oaked - fut de chene This does not disappoint! £15.50
They have planted a single south facing slope of Syrah to acknowledge his wife Anouck's roots in Hermitage. Raspail Rouge 2017, 100% Syrah, has a beautiful purple colour and has delicious sweet dark fruits with good acidity and just a touch of oak. I'm confident it drinks well now or will keep for 8-10 years.
